Manage Templates

Template List

You can access the Template list from the Apps menu or the Project navigation bar. You’ll see all templates available for the selected project. To view templates from other projects, simply switch between projects.

For Jira Admins there’s also an ability to see the list of all templates on the instance on the Global Settings. To access them go Settings β†’ Apps β†’ Smart Templates.

Create a Template

  1. Go to the Template List.

  2. Click on the Create template button.

  3. Give your template a name.

  4. The Template edit screen will appear, where you can start building your Issue template: add issues, pre-fill the fields, add variables etc.

Rename a Template

  1. Go to the Template List

  2. Expand the Template you want to rename by clicking on it

  3. Click on the Template name field in order to edit it

  4. Type in the new name for the Template and click the check button

  5. Done! You Template is renamed.

☝🏻 NOTE: Global templates can be renamed only by Project Admins and Jira Admins.

Duplicate a Template

  1. Go to the Template List

  2. Click on 3-dots menu for Template you want to duplicate

  3. Click on Duplicate

  4. The window will appear. Type in the name of the new Template and click OK

  5. Done!

πŸ’‘ HINT: Global Templates can be duplicated into individual projects for further customization and project-specific adjustments.

Copy Template Link for Sharing

  1. Go to the Template List

  2. Click on 3-dots menu for Template you want to share

  3. Click on Copy link

  4. When someone opens the link, they will be taken directly to the selected template.

Delete a Template

  1. Go to the Template List.

  2. Click on 3-dots menu for the Template you want to delete.

  3. Click on Delete.

  4. Click Delete in the confirmation window.

  5. You will receive a notification confirming that the Template was deleted successfully.

☝🏻 NOTE: Global templates shared across multiple projects can only be deleted by a Project Admin or Jira Admin. Global templates that are shared with all projects (including newly created ones) can only be deleted by a Jira Admin.
