Import Checklist From a Template

Import Checklist Templates into your Jira issues to save time and maintain consistency⚡️

👤 To work with Checklist Templates, ensure users have the appropriate permissions:

  • If you use Jira permissions: users need Edit Issues permission to import templates.

  • If you use Smart Checklist permissions: users need Add Smart Checklist Items or Manage Smart Checklist Items permission to import templates.

Import checklist from a template

  1. Go to a Jira Issue that contains Smart Checklist.

  2. Go to the Smart Checklist menu and select the Import from a Template option.

☝🏼NOTE: For issues with multiple checklist tabs, the “Import from a Template” option is available in each tab menu.

  1. The Templates Manager will open, displaying a list of available templates. From here, you can import either a Project Template or a Global one.

  1. Preview a Template. Click on the template name to expand its contents and preview the checklist items before importing.

  1. Import the Template. Choose a template and click Import → Confirm your action in the dialog that appears → The checklist will be appended to the current issue.

  1. Done! You’ve successfully imported a template into your issue. ✅

💡HINT: For advanced use, templates can be imported automatically using Default Template Extended Conditions, enabling you to apply templates based on issue type, transition, field values, and more.
